Thanks to Mr. Madhana Raghavan for sharing this video link with us.
Chennai dancers are going to add the classical zing to the London Olympics. The approximately 9 minutes choreography includes Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kalari, Mohiniattam, Kathakali, and Odissi. Each dance form represents one of the five elements (Pancha Bhootam)
- Bharatanatyam = Space
- Kathak = Wind
- Kalari = Earth
- Kathakali and Mohiniattam = Fire
- Odissi = Water
A little bollywood touch, as an icing on the cake, at the end.
From BN.and.WWW blog, we wish them all the dancers/performers good luck and we hope the london audience appreciates the effort. Watch and enjoy!!!
I just wanted to ask… when is this, because it was not performed at the opening ceremony?
In their twitter page, it says “Indian Students traditional performance at the Olympic Park on the 31st Jul and 2nd Aug”. https://twitter.com/INDIACUL
Not sure if this going to be televised or not.
I don’t think that each dance form represented one of the element of Pancha bhutam. According to me, it showed the five rings of the Olympic symbol which represents the union of the five regions of the whole world
Well, The dance forms relating to five elements is what is shown in the video, finally culminating as the Olympic symbol.
Thanks
