Press release: Akhilam Madhuram danced by Rama Vaidyanathan UK Tour, June 2011

Through the beautiful Indian Classical dance form Bharatanatyam, Rama explores the life of the Hindu deity Krishna, and explores the symbolism of the lands of Mathura and Brindavan in his legend. In her first ever tour of the UK, Rama Vaidyanathan takes her audiences on a mystical and spellbinding journey back into the life and times of Lord Krishna. Right from childhood to when He became the King of Mathura, everything about Krishna’s life was and still is sweet.

“His words, His smile, His gait, His actions, and His very presence” – Akhilam Madhuram.

Rama is considered to be amongst the best in Indian dance and is renowned for her unique thought process and fresh approach to dance. By taking the rich traditions of Bharatanatyam classical dance and adding her own unique flair in choreography her dance is empathetic, quirky, fresh, and inimitable. Performing professionally for the past twenty years, Rama is now one of the most sought after dancers of her generation. She brings to her dance a rare sense of devotion and dedication, which leaves the audience with a sense of spiritual fulfillment. The performance will be further enhanced by a stunning ensemble of musicians from India who will perform live an especially composed score.

Performances will take place at The Lowry, Salford Quays, The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool, The Drum in Birmingham, and Bharatya Vidya Bhavan in London. This tour is produced by Milapfest, The UK’s Indian Arts Development Trust in association with Sampad and Vani Fine Arts.
