“Vichitra Vaibhavam” Honours Smt. Chitra Visweswaran

In a special initiative to honour Guru Smt. Chitra Visweswaran, on her 60 th birthday (which was on October 12), Rechita Nrutyalaya, a Chennai based dance institute run by her senior disciple Sri. Vijay Madhavan, launched ‘Vichitra Vaibhavam’, a year-long celebration of dance dedicated to her.

Smt. Chitra Visweswaran inaugurated the first in the series of these events by lighting the traditional lamp at Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple, West Mambalam. This was followed by a recital by her grand disciple Subathra Vijayakumar (student of Rechita Nrutyalaya) and disciple Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya (student of Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts founded by Chitra).

A donation in kind was made by Rechita Nrutyalaya  to Annai Illam, Mylapore, an old age home for women, in association with the event. A greeting card  from the women of this old age home was handed over to Smt. Chitra Visweswaran at the inauguration function.

At the event there will be 60 days of Bharatanatyam performances by eminent and up-and-coming dancers. Five venues will host these celebrations every month. For details contact 99404 09818 or vijaymadhavan@yahoo.com
