  1. I am looking at including my daughter for performances or under talent search in Chennai etc. She finished her Arangetram in August this year under the guidance of Smt. Hemamalini Chari (disciple of Late Mr. Mani).

    Hi Mr. Sunil Krishnamurthy,
Nice to met you here. As for this talent show, from the info that I find at Kutcheribuzz the elimination rounds must have been conducted on Nov. 13, 14 and 15. So you may be a little late. But you can ask the organizers to suggest future course of action at the contact detail provided at http://www.kutcheribuzz.com/easypromos/advertisements.htm

  2. A report on this competition briefly (well, for nearly a month!) appeared on Narthaki.com in “Roses and Thorns”. Why only for a month???? What VIP’s could have been irked by this report and have made the editor delete it? Read my blog’s latest post and learn about the thorny political issues. 🙂

  3. I recentlly saw a wonderful dancer whose resume spoke of the “Balasaraswathi Award for Excellence in Dance in an international dance competition in New York in 1993” and I wondered whether I could get more information about this award for an article which I am writing for a magazine.

    Hi Ted,

As far as I know there are 2 organizations that honor dancers with an award instituted in memory of Balasaraswathi, an icon of the classical Indian dance Form of Bharathanatyam in Madras(Now officially Chennai) in India..
Here is an article written by one of her prime disciples –
    The two awards are
1.Balasaraswati Award by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai
2.Balasaraswati Award by Sriragam Fine Arts, Chennai

As for this award from New York(Balasaraswati/Joy Ann Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching Award at the American Dance Festival), google yielded this URL…http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1083/is_7_74/ai_63257062/

….the annual Distinguished Teaching Chairs at American Dance Festival 2000. Established in 1991, the awards recognize the dual role of teachers in passing on dance history and tradition and in guaranteeing future creativity in the art form. They commemorate Balasaraswati, one of India’s legendary dancers and teachers, and Joy Ann Dewey Beinecke, a dancer and faculty member at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

The award is supposedly the premier teaching honor given at the nation’s leading dance festival, held each summer at Duke University.
