Chennai dancers Receive Singarmani Awards

Three Chennai based dancers have been awarded the title of ‘Singar Mani’ at the recently held 47th Kal Ke Kalakar Sangeet Sammelan 2008 in Mumbai.
The dancers are Aishwarya Narayanaswamy (senior disciple of Anita Guha), Jyotsna Jagannathan (senior disciple of A. Lakshman) and Shweta Prachande (senior disciple of Priyadarshini Govind and Dr. Sucheta Chapekar)

Music and dance festival / Dombivli, Mumbai

Nadopasana Music Dais, based in Mumbai will celebrate its annual music and dance festival along with a homage to Satguru Thyagaraja from Feb. 1 to 3, 2008.

On Feb.1, Sadguru Vandanam, a thematic Bharatanatyam will presented by Arathi Natarajan and K.P.Ragesh of Kalakshetra, Chennai followed by Sri Krishna Mahatmyam, another dance presentation by the students of Kalanjali, Dombivli will be held. From 7pm onwards.

On Feb. 2, a musical discourse on Music and Spirituality by Swami Sandeep Chaitanya followed by violin duet by Mysore Nagaraj and Manjunath will be held from 5 pm onwards.

On Feb.3, a namasankeerthanam by Shenkottai Hariharasubramanian followed by group rendering of Pancharatna kritis is scheduled from 9 am.
A talent promotion concert by Neyyattinkara Amal will be held at 4.30 pm and vocal concert by Malladi Brothers will be at 7.30 pm

Bharathanatyam competition in Mumbai/Bombay

Kalavardhini Charitable Trust and Dadar – Matunga Cultural Centre jointly organise a Bharatanatyam dance competition for young amateur dancers between 11 and 20 years of age.
The competition will be held on Feb. 9 and 10, 2008 at the Dadar Matunga Cultural Center, Mahim, Mumbai – 16.

The competition will be held in two age groups.
Sub – junior Group for 11 to 15 yearolds and Junior Group for 16 to 20 yearolds.
Time limit of 10 minites per participant is stipulated. Recorded or live music.

Last date for submitting entries is Jan. 25, 2008. Entries along with proof of age should be addressed to Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, 122-A, J.K. Sawant Marg, Mahim, Mumbai – 400016. Tel. 24304150.
